The 86th Academy Awards saw the gorgeous French actress Olga Kurylenko sporting the coveted Red Carpet Green Dress challenge winning gown, teamed with a pair of Beyond Skin’s vegan sandals.
Created by the UK-based ethical footwear manufacturer Beyond Skin and the international animal charity foundation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the red carpet footwear is made from ‘Dinamica’ a micro fibre vegan suede formed of 100 percent recycled bottle tops, with a metallic faux leather trim.
The Zoe style vegan sandal that was worn to the Oscars will be available for sale from today, 3rd March, and 10 percent of the proceeds from sales will go to the non-profit educational institution MUSE School CA, California, co-founded by Red Carpet Green Dress campaign founder Suzy Amis Cameron.
The Bond girl walked the red carpet wearing an eco-friendly custom-made gown designed by competition winner Alice Elia – a French-Lebanese student at fashion school ESMOD in Paris. We just love the shoulder detail.
The stunning Award-winning actress Olga Kurylenko came to international prominence starring opposite Daniel Craig in the Bond film Quantum of Solace. Kurylenko established her career in France following her debut performance as a leading actress in the film L’Annulaire, and she has since occupied roles in The Water Diviner opposite Russell Crowe, Oblivion opposite Tom Cruise, Hitman, There Be Dragons and Terence Malick’s To The Wonder. “What a privilege it will be to wear Alice’s gorgeous design on the red carpet for the campaign’s fifth year, which is such a milestone for Suzy and everyone involved,” comments Kurylenko. “It’s a great honor to have been asked.”
The Red Carpet Green Dress Started by environmental advocate Suzy Amis Cameron, wife of famous film director James Cameron, the Red Carpet Green Dress is an international dress design competition which invites designers from across the world to create an Oscar worthy sustainable dress.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of Red Carpet Green Dress which was conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron during the press tour for her husband James Cameron’s film Avatar. Her hope was to draw attention to the importance of more sustainable practices in fashion. “As I reflect on the past five years of the campaign, my thoughts are immediately drawn to the challenges we’ve faced in creating these gorgeous sustainable gowns,” says Suzy. “While there are still great strides to be made, it’s important to point out that there are a greater number of sustainable resources available to designers today than there were five years ago.”
We are thrilled to have had another Oscar’s outing, as it has been a little while since Natalie Portman wore our shoes to the Oscars and the Golden Globes.
Plus some more exciting news at Beyond Skin HQ, we have also won this year’s Most Stylish Women’s Flat Shoes title at the just held PETA-approved Vegan Fashion Awards, which recognises brands that promote and support kind treatment to animals by using pleather, faux-fur, mock-croc and other cruelty-free materials in their designs.
