Beyond Skin HQ is but a stone’s throw away from the coast, so the beach always beckons. The weather has been cranking up the celsius of late though, hinting at a very temperate June.We have a £10 off Bank Holiday treat for our lovely customers, so use code MAY10 until midnight tonight on a pair of your choice. Plus, across my intrepid adventures through the Instagram-osphere of ethical and eco-friendly fashion, I’ve discovered a handful of planet-friendly brands that you deserve to know about that go just swell with our sustainable sandals. With summer in mind, I’ve cooked up a fresh batch of sustainable beachside outfits for you to choose from. Y’welcome.

Eco Chic

  1. Green Leaf High Neck Halter and Briefs for Rainforest Partnership, GreenLee Swim, £67.07. GreenLee Swim’s leafy twist on the traditional floral print is made using 83% recycled water bottles, and 10% of this item will be donated to the Rainforest Partnership. That high neck is not only practical, but also bang on trend too. You can imagine tipping a straw trilby with one hand and brandishing a decadently fruity cocktail in the other with this bikini on.
  2. McCall Premium Red Ebony Polarized Lens Sunglasses, Proof Eyewear, £123.10. These sunnies complement the eco-vibe of the leaves by using exposed wood frames. The frame design is a cross between the wayfarer and the cat eye style, which is apparently the perfect balance, as these have proven to be very popular, by all accounts. Proof Eyewear glasses are handmade using sustainably sourced wood.
  3. Salma Cream Sandals, Beyond Skin, £89. Our retro block heel sandals are perfect for lounging in the sun, and would work well with this bikini. All our linings are 100% recycled faux leather with a vegetable polymer finish, so these sandals take up the baton of plant power from the sunglasses.

Midnight Swim

  1. Neutra Maillot Navy EcoLux Swimsuit, Vitamin A, £123.10. This elegant navy swimsuit from Vitamin A ticks a number of sustainable boxes. The EcoLux material is made in California from recycled nylon fibre, and it’s made in the USA, so the air miles are kept to a minimum. It also uses Lycra Xtra Life to prolong it’s membership of your wardrobe. The cut-out detail and thicker straps give this suit an air of sophistication. Best paired with a dusty pink nails and a glass of champagne, I think.
  2. Crystal Blush Eco Lucy Sunglasses, Dizm, £75.23. This style of frame is right at home with this midnight blue suit; retro in all the right ways, in a subdued off-white. These sunnies are handmade, and the frames are 100% renewable and biodegradable. This brand uses plant-based BioSan plastic to create its glasses.
  3. Mimi Gold Espadrilles, Beyond Skin, £79. Our quality gold Italian fabric works a treat with the creamy off-white of the sunglasses, matching the swimsuit in subtle understated luxury. Our shoes are also all handmade, in our factory in Alicante, Spain. Our espadrilles are super comfy live-in summer shoes, ideal for poolside afternoons.

  1. Marble Cut Out One Piece, Auria London, £80. Designers Margot Bowman and Diana Auria were featured among Selfridge’s Bright New Things earlier this year for their unique combination of cutting edge cool designs and instinct for sustainability. They use Econyl, described by Bowman as “a new-generation fabric that comes from projects around the world – one in the Philippines – where they collect fishing nets and melt them down. It’s from the sea back into the sea, the full life cycle. But you would never know.” We thoroughly agree that a product needs to be buyable in its own right for being downright beautiful, with sustainable production being a behind-the-scenes bonus for shoppers. This marble swimming costume is a case in point.
  2. Olivia Bamboo Sunglasses, Woodzee, £51.29. Bamboo is da bomb. I particularly love the subtle cat-eye of this design, giving them a retro feminine edge whilst at the same time looking totally contemporary with its clean lines and uniform colour. Woodzee have a Recycle Program where you can recycle your old Woodzee sunglasses in exchange for 40% off your next pair. Neat.
  3. Pip Silver Flat Sandals, Beyond Skin, £89. Our simple flat sandals match all manner of outfits, such is the beauty of silver. This style has been hailed as being particularly comfy too, due to our padded insoles and flexi soles. Pair these with a shimmery blue nail polish on your toes for maximum effect with this outfit.

Eco Swim - 4

  1. Black Net Classic One Piece, Auria London, £165. Another design by Auria. This swimsuit is part of their latest collection, and brings the origins of the material (recycled fish nets) to the forefront, embracing it in the design itself. This bold pattern has simplicity and originality all at once, reminiscent of an optical illusion.
  2. Berlin Blue Mirror Sunglasses, Monkey Glasses, £98.06. Get this, right – Monkey Glasses are made using cotton fibres. It seems counter-intuitive, but the cotton acetate they use is made of roughly 95% cotton flowers and wood, and its unique to Monkey Glasses. Plus, they’ve recently introduced a Zero Waste program, meaning they use all leftover material to produce accessories. The bold blue of the lenses accent the black and white swimsuit in this outfit.
  3. Bianca Silver Flat Sandals, Beyond Skin, £79. To continue on the theme of clean, simple, futuristic lines, we chose our silver Bianca sandals to match this outfit. This style is also very much on trend at the moment too. They have an elastic slingback to make it super easy to slip on and off as you please.

First Class

  1. Airmail Triangle and Tie Side Bikini, Auria London, £50. How. Cute. Is. This. Inspired by the old-fashion airmail envelope designs, this classic triangle bikini is too sweet for words. If you do go abroad this summer on holiday, you can make all manner of jokes about having arrived by post, if you’re that way inclined. This is part of an old Auria collection, so that price is 60% off. It’s a steal.
  2. Red Bamboo Grey Lens Hayburn Wood Sunglasses, Proof Eyewear, £75.23. Our second pick from Proof are these vintage red shades, in-keeping with the retro-vibe of the bikini. Proof not only source materials responsibly, but they like to give back too, helping out with many worthwhile causes such as tsunami relief in Japan, reforestation in Haiti, and donating to The Nature Conservancy in Idaho, so when you buy a pair of Proof sunnies, you’ll be looking good and doing good at the same time.
  3. Simone White Slingback Espadrilles, Beyond Skin, £79. One of our brand new espadrille collection, the Simone peep toe slingbacks are a classic style this season. They’re lined with our new sustainable recycled faux leather lining, and suit this bikini down to the ground.

Pretty in Pink

  1. Dagmara Diamond One Piece in Doll’s Cheek Pink, Vaute Couture, £97.39 when you preorder. Vaute are renowned for their cruelty-free and sustainable coats and dresses, and their latest venture is in swimwear. And they’ve done it again! Their beautiful designs have certainly made a splash (pun intended). The material is 78% recycled nylon made from recycled carpet fibres, cut and sewn in USA. This design’s diamond cut out is unique, bridging the gap between high waisted bikinis and full swimsuits.
  2. Islington White, Colin Leslie Eyewear UK, £83.57. These eco sunglasses are made with sustainable bamboo arms, recycled acetate frames and properly protective lenses, connected with a silver arch. Very swish indeed.
  3. Tommy Ivory Sandals, Beyond Skin, £125. This are the epitome of feminine. The delicate faux leather bow on the toe has been embellished with metallic details, to give that added luxe vibe. Paint those toenails a matching shade of pink and you’re golden.

Poolside Poise

  1. Sophie Ruffle Bikini Top in Stargate Blue with Becca High Waisted Bottoms, Vaute Couture, £48.15 and £39.39 respectively. The ruffles paired with the high waisted bottoms make this a gorgeous flattering bikini. All things retro are right up our street, and this bikini is one of our favourites, it must be said.
  2. Carve Maple Sunglasses, Grown, £88.22. All Grown’s shades are made using sustainable wood or bamboo from managed forests which are bound by the sustainable forestry management standards of the FSC. But that’s not all – for every item purchased form Grown, they fund sight-restoring eye surgery for 1 individual, or diagnostic eye exams for 12 children. In the first six months, Grown fully funded sight-restoring eye surgery for over 1000 people. That is applause-worthy indeed!
  3. Mimi Floral Espadrilles, Beyond Skin, £79. This navy floral pattern was such a success on our Caya kitten heels that we decided to use them on our espadrilles too. Some sizes are still in stock, with others available to pre-order for our July delivery.
